The Honeywell Xenon 1902 2D/PDF/OCR Area Imager was tested by POS World in part for 1D/2D scanning functionality, wireless functionality, and also image capture applications.
SCANNER FUNCTIONALITY
The scanner decodes 1D and 2D barcodes at a significantly faster rate than the earlier Honeywell Focus series and transmits the barcodes faster through the USB interface. 1D testing of the Xenon 1902 shows the scanner will read the vast majority of retail barcodes sized at 5 mils. The scanner can pick up most GS1 Databar codes at a minimum of 5 mils.
The Xenon scans barcodes off of curved surfaces such as liquor or soda bottles which are at a 1.5-2” diameter. The scanner will also pick up barcodes off of reflective surfaces such as soda cans when scanning at a slightly more extreme angle from the right or left of the barcode.
For support purposes Honeywell has instituted an “EZ Config-Scanning” application to reconfigure the scanner directly through COM emulation or create 2D configuration barcodes which can be printed out or scanned off an LCD screen. Adding or subtracting prefix/suffix digits is very easy through the configuration utility or configuration guide.
WIRELESS FUNCTIONALITY
The Xenon 1902 has a 33' working range and a batch/inventory mode built-in to the standard version of the scanner. POS World found the Xenon 1902 maintains a constant wireless connection to the base along with a very fast transmission rate. If an end user walks out of range the scanner will emit a raspberry beep and the red LED will blink to signal the scanner is out of range of the base.
The inventory/batch mode of the scanner is setup by scanning an INVENTORY BATCH MODE configuration code. This mode allows the scanner to hold over 2000 EAN13 barcodes. When th end user is done collecting a batch of barcodes they scan a TRANSMIT ALL barcode which tranmits all the codes in the scanner's memory to the Xenon base.
IMAGE CAPTURE
The Xenon 1902 can capture images of documents (drivers' licenses, checks, etc) and transmit them through real-time to the scanner's base connected to a PC via USB cable. POS World found the scanner works best when a document is positioned 4" or less from the scanner's head and no overhead or direct light is beamed at the document. Please be aware that environmental variables such as lighting and reflective materials can affect the quality of the final image.
Images can be captured via Honeywell's EZ Config Utility available at http://www.honeywellaidc.com |
