The Star FVP-10 Front-Loading Voice printer has an impressive set of features. The FVP-10 is one of the fastest thermal receipt printers tested by POS World. The two features which set this printer aside from other models is the front paper loading mechanism and the voice/sound playback features. The printer would be rated by POS World as a very simple installation for Windows PC’s. The CD-ROM includes a wizard driven driver installation and all-in-one utility which has an easy-to-navigate menu for all the advanced functions of the printer.
The front paper loading feature allows a user to pull-out the paper cover from the front instead of the traditional top cover loading method. This feature allows the printer to have a much lower profile than other receipt printers to save on counter space.
The voice enabled features of this printer allow for digital sound files stored on the printer to be outputted through an internal speaker located on the front of the printer. This feature can come in handy to alert users or operators that a receipt is printing or finished. The printer has 19 preconfigured voice prompts which can state messages to an operator or end user like “Ticket is done printing”, “Please do not pull the paper until printing finishes”, or “Please wait here, we will guide you shortly”. Additional user created sounds can be uploaded through Star’s Utility. The printer can be triggered to play a specific sound every time a job prints or the printer can play specific sounds based on specific text triggers setup in the Star utility. An example: If the printer receives the ASCII text “Order” then it can play a specific sound based on that trigger like “Order coming in”. The printer also has an external audio output on the back of the printer if you want to connect an external speaker for the printer.
The printer can be mounted on top of a counter like a regular desktop printer or has an optional under-counter mounting kit. If you are using the printer on a counter-top the rubber feet on the bottom of the printer provide excellent traction to keep the printer from moving even on very smooth surfaces. Star provides instructions for the under-counter mounting kit which is very easy to install. |
