Many users today are computer and Internet literate; however, they do not want a long, cumbersome experience in a retail environment connoted by a keyboard and trackball. Touch screens are accepted as a quick and easy way to get things done and come in many varieties. Resistive touch has the lowest cost and is pressure sensitive, making it popular with gloved and long finger-nailed users, but it’s more scratchable than other technologies. Capacitive and acoustic touch screens are also available. The added expense of a touch screen is justified if required to attract users at the location.
