Problem: USB or keyboard wedge barcode scanner beeps but nothing appears on the computer screen
Solution: If using a USB or keyboard wedge barcode scanner then open Notepad inside of Windows. Scan a sample UPC barcode into Notepad. The barcode number should appear in Notepad. If the scanner is not sending ANY information when beeping then the interface of the scanner may need to be reprogrammed. Consult the scanner’s user guide or manufacturer for specific directions to program scanner for correct interface.
- Scanner decodes and transmits manufacturer barcodes samples, but doesn’t decode barcodes created by my business:
- In many cases 3rd party software applications will use a barcode symbology that isn’t decoded by default on many scanners. Check with the manufacturer of the barcode scanner to see if they have a configuration barcode which will enable additional barcode symbologies.
- Most barcode scanners will have a minimum number of characters, usually 3 or more characters, in a barcode that must be present in order to decode and transmit to the host. Check the documentation from the barcode scanner manufacturer to enable fewer digits in order to decode the information.
- If the above steps do not help please refer to related articles for label issues. You can also contact our technical support staff to help identify barcode symbologies. Please call 888-801-7282 ext. 3 for assistance.
